Several news sources reported earlier this week that fast-food giant McDonald's will run its trucks in the United Arab Emirates using a very unusual form of fuel.

According to an article by Vivian Salama on Bloomberg.com, "McDonald's UAE and privately held Neutral Fuels LLC formed a venture to produce biodiesel using recycled vegetable oil from the fast food retailer's outlets in the United Arab Emirates." This will be the first plant in the Gulf nation that is licensed to make biodiesel, reports Salama. The new form of fuel will be used in all delivery trucks within the Arab country, eliminating the need to import diesel.
This isn't the first step McDonald's has taken to clean up its act. As reported on CBSNews.com, according to the Associated Press, biofuel is already being used in the company's vehicles in England and Austria. Hopefully other large corporations will soon follow in McDonald's eco-friendly footsteps.
